IDIOM CONTEST
An idiom is an expression whose meaning is not predictable from the meaning of its words, so you have to learn idioms by heart. By the way, "by heart" is an idiom meaning "by memory" (de memoria).
Learning idioms can be hard, so I thought of organising a sort of weekly contest in which my students could give the meaning of these expressions in Spanish.
A new idiom or proverb will be posted each week so that you can give a proper tarnslation in Spanish. Remember idioms cannot be translated literally.
This week's proverb:
"The early bird catches the worm"
Post your translations as soon as possible. Who will be the winner?
interesting way to try to teach the spanyards english - they have a hard time with foreign languages.
ReplyDeleteI am danish and live in Torre del Mar. Here you have to be able to make yourself understood in spanish, nobody speaks any other language.
You can read my blog http://danskeklub.blogspot.com/ but it is in danish.

Thank you for posting a comment! I wonder how you came across my blog! I'm trying hard to make my students interested in learning English. I hope my efforts and other teachers' effort will have a reward and finally more Spanish people will speak other languages!
ReplyDeleteI popped into your blog, and though unfortunately I can't understand any Danish, I could see what your interests are. It's nice to see that you're interested in this part of the country.
Greetings from San Pedro!!

ReplyDeleteSpanish: Al que madruga dios le ayuda.
