IDIOM CONTEST

An idiom is an expression whose meaning is not predictable from the meaning of its words, so you have to learn idioms by heart. By the way, "by heart" is an idiom meaning "by memory" (de memoria).
Learning idioms can be hard, so I thought of organising a sort of weekly contest in which my students could give the meaning of these expressions in Spanish.
A new idiom or proverb will be posted each week so that you can give a proper tarnslation in Spanish. Remember idioms cannot be translated literally.
This week's proverb:
"The early bird catches the worm"
Post your translations as soon as possible. Who will be the winner?

Pronunciation is something really important if you want to be understood by English speakers.
The BBC has created a series of videos that will help you improve it. Try this link and practise saying the sounds after watching the videos. I suggest that you start with the vowel sounds.
Have fun with it!

Learning English with songs

One of the best ways of learning English (or any other language) is listening to songs and then try to uderstand what we have just heard.
Surfing the net, I came across this fantastic webpage where you can find thousands of videos of songs and their lyrics. Besides, many of them feature exercises to work further on them.
Click on the following link and you'll see that I wasn't exaggerating when I said it was "fantastic".

Welcome to my English class

With this blog I want to introduce my students to new ways of learning English, using the new technologies and the internet. Far from the boring blackboard, I hope they will find this blog both interesting and motivating.
My idea is to insert not only grammar or vocabulary exercises, but also photos, videos, links... so that they can make comments on them in English, and it would be great if they could upload their own work!!
